About Simple.solar
Solar is a big purchase sold with a lot of jargon. We exist to make the decision simple and honest.
What we do
We publish plain-English guides and free calculators covering every kind of solar: rooftop systems, home batteries, plug-in balcony kits, portable power stations, RV setups and off-grid cabins. Most solar websites exist to sell one of these. We'd rather help you choose the right one, including when the right answer is "not yet."
What we believe
- Numbers beat adjectives. Every claim about savings should show its math.
- Renters count. Half of households can't put panels on a roof. They still deserve options.
- No pressure. You can use everything here without giving us your name.
- Corrections are a feature. When we get something wrong, we fix it and note the change.
How we make money
Display advertising through Google AdSense, referral fees when a reader asks for installer quotes, clearly labeled sponsorships, and reader support. None of these influence our calculators or recommendations. Our editorial policy explains the safeguards.
Our data
Electricity prices from the US EIA, sunshine from NREL's PVWatts and NSRDB, installed prices from EnergySage and SEIA/Wood Mackenzie market reports, and incentive rules from the IRS, DSIRE and national agencies. We review figures at least twice a year.
