Plug-in and balcony solar calculator

A small kit plugged into an outlet trims your bill without a roof install. See what it would make and save where you live.

Most plug-in kits don't get paid for exports, so solar power you don't use at the moment it's made is usually lost. Fridges, routers and other always-on devices soak up most of it.

—Yearly production
—Yearly savings
—Payback
—Emissions avoided

Is it legal where I live? As of October 2026, ten US states have plug-in solar laws: Utah, Maine, Virginia, Colorado, Maryland, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont, New Jersey and California. Several take effect in 2027. Elsewhere, ask your utility first. Details by state are in the plug-in solar guide.

Only buy certified equipment with anti-islanding protection, plug directly into a wall outlet (no extension cords), and don't exceed the circuit's rating.
